Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a common solution for missing teeth, and can help to close or bridge the gaps in your smile caused by missing teeth. The false tooth, also known as a pontic, is typically made of porcelain and is held in place by the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. At Spring Leaf Dentistry, we understand the importance of a healthy and beautiful smile. That's why we offer a variety of dental services, including the placement of dental bridges.

Why do I need a dental bridge?

Missing teeth can affect you in various ways, including impacting your ability to chew and speak, and altering the shape of your face. A dental bridge can help to restore your smile, improve your ability to chew and speak, and maintain the shape of your face, as well as prevent the remaining teeth from drifting.

What Types of Dental Bridges Are Available?

  • Traditional bridges are used when you have natural teeth on both sides of the gap created by your missing tooth.
  • Cantilever bridges are used when adjacent teeth are on only one side of the missing tooth or teeth. The pontic is held in place by a dental crown that is cemented to only one abutment tooth.
  • Maryland bonded bridges (also called resin-bonded bridges) are used when you have natural teeth on both sides of the gap. Bridges are porcelain or porcelain fused to metal and gums supported by a metal or porcelain framework. Metal or porcelain wings often on just one side of the bridge are bonded to your existing teeth.
  • Implant-supported bridges use dental implants as opposed to crowns or frameworks. Typically, one implant is surgically placed for every missing tooth, which holds the bridge in position. Therefore, it is considered the most robust and stable system.

How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?

Dental bridges can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years or longer with good oral hygiene and regular checkups. To ensure the longevity of your dental bridge, it's important to practice good oral hygiene and schedule regular checkups with our experienced dentists.

How Do I Care for a Bridge?

Daily brushing, flossing, and the use of mouthwash can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss. Additionally, keeping the surrounding teeth healthy is essential for the success of the bridge.
